Plaque reads: ‘This statue of William Shakespeare was presented to the County Borough of West Ham by Councillor J.C. Carroll Befruary, 1925’

The statue was commissioned by J.C. Carroll. It was originally designed for the Haymarket Opera House, according to Mrs Coade’s Stone by Alison Kelly.
