History
The theatre was originally conceived by Frank Benson and Charles Edward Flower. It has seen two major rounds of refurbishing, in 1932 and 2012. The latter resulted in the building of the RSC tower.
From the RSC website: ‘The idea of a theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon was not new in 1875 when Charles Flower donated the building site. But what he came up with was the idea that the town should have a permanent subsidised company of actors.’
