The bust was conceived by the British population of Argentina.
An inscription on its pedestal reads: ‘William Shakespeare La Communidad Britanica en la Republica Argentina en el Cuarto Centenario de su Nacimento 1564-1964’
It is situated in the Poets’ Garden, alongside busts of other famous writers, among them Jorge Luis Borges, and Luigi Pirandello.
