History
The cast was commissioned by Mrs Charles Wylie.
The original Stratford upon Avon monument dates to ca 1620, the cast from 1846. It was donated to the National Portrait Gallery in 1900.
Incidentally, the Gallery holds several prints of Shakespeare images, and two further plaster casts of the tomb effigy. Read more at the Gallery website.
