History
The effigy shows a recumbent statue of Shakespeare in a niche, with carved images of Elizabethan Southwark depicting the Globe, Winchester Palace and the tower of the church.
An elaborate window in the cathedral, depicting Shakespearean characters, was destroyed in a bomb blast and replaced in 1954.
A birthday celebration for the playwright is held every year in April.
